Quick answers
Do I still need a "tax invoice" in NZ?
Since 1 April 2023, Inland Revenue requires "taxable supply information" rather than a document titled "tax invoice". Many businesses still use the title. What matters is that the right details are there for the size of the sale.
What details do I need on a GST invoice in NZ?
Up to $200: your name, the date, a description and the amount. Over $200: also your GST number and the GST amount (or that the price includes GST). Over $1,000: also the buyer’s name plus one identifier, such as their address, phone, email, NZBN or website. Check Inland Revenue’s guidance for the details.
I’m not registered for GST. What do I use?
Untick "Registered for GST". You get a plain invoice with no GST and a note that no GST has been charged.
Is my information stored anywhere?
Only in your own browser, so your details are ready next time. Nothing is sent to us. Use "Clear all" to remove it.
