GST/HST rates by province (2026)
- HST 13%: Ontario
- HST 14%: Nova Scotia (from April 1, 2025)
- HST 15%: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island
- GST 5% only: Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon
- GST 5% plus provincial tax: British Columbia (PST 7%), Manitoba (RST 7%), Saskatchewan (PST 6%), Quebec (QST 9.975%)
Rates from the Canada Revenue Agency, checked October 2026. Provincial sales taxes are run by each province and don’t apply to everything, so untick "Include PST" when your sale is PST-exempt.
How to calculate it
- Add tax: price × (1 + rate). $200 in Ontario: $200 × 1.13 = $226.
- Reverse it: total ÷ (1 + rate). $226 ÷ 1.13 = $200, so the HST is $26.
- GST + PST/QST: both are charged on the price before tax. $200 in BC: $10 GST + $14 PST = $224.

Quick answers
What is the HST rate in Ontario?
13%. It combines the 5% federal GST and Ontario’s provincial part into one harmonized sales tax.
What is the HST rate in Nova Scotia?
14% since April 1, 2025, down from 15%. New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island are still 15%.
How do I reverse-calculate GST or HST?
Divide the tax-included total by 1 plus the rate. In Ontario, $113 ÷ 1.13 = $100 before HST, so the HST is $13. In Alberta, $105 ÷ 1.05 = $100, so the GST is $5. Choose "Remove tax" above to do it automatically.
How is QST worked out in Quebec?
QST is 9.975% of the price before GST, not of the price plus GST. So $100 has $5.00 GST and $9.98 QST, for $114.98 in total.
Do I have to charge GST/HST?
Once your taxable sales go over $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four consecutive quarters, you are no longer a small supplier and must register. PST in BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and QST in Quebec have their own rules; check with the province.
