Post your holiday hours in four places
Most people check your hours on their phone before they head out, so a sign on the door is the last place they look. Cover all four:
- Google Business Profile. Add special hours for each changed day. Google Maps shows these, and it matters most.
- Your website. A banner on the home page or a line next to your normal hours.
- Instagram and Facebook. Post the square version and pin it through the holidays.
- The door and the register. Print the poster two to three weeks ahead.
Holiday dates for the 2026 season
| Day | Date | Federal holiday? |
|---|---|---|
| Thanksgiving | Thursday, November 26, 2026 | Yes |
| Black Friday | Friday, November 27, 2026 | No |
| Christmas Eve | Thursday, December 24, 2026 | No |
| Christmas Day | Friday, December 25, 2026 | Yes |
| New Year's Eve | Thursday, December 31, 2026 | No |
| New Year's Day | Friday, January 1, 2027 | Yes |
Federal dates are from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. In Canada, Boxing Day (Saturday, December 26) is a holiday in some provinces; check your province's rules.
What to put on a holiday hours sign
- Each changed day by name and date. "Thu, Nov 26: Closed" is clearer than "closed for the holiday".
- When normal hours return. "All other days: 9am – 5pm" saves you a lot of phone calls.
- A short thank-you. End the year on a warm note with your regulars.
